An all-day picnic is recommended for the thousands who will flock to the foreshore reserve as roving artists and characters provide entertainment, and the Zone comes alive from 2pm with 100 free activities for everyone from toddlers to adults in a safe, enclosed 100,000sq m area.
It will have seven activity areas – a Toddler and Kids Zone, Kids Theatre, Challenge Area, Sports Zone, Art Zone, Adrenalin Cor- ner and a Rides Park.
The Marquee is a place to relax in the shade from 2pm and soak up the stage entertainment, including performers Josephine and Goggles, Bantus Capoeira, Ricky Possum and the Dance Collective.
City of South Perth chief executive Cliff Frewing said Australia Day on the South Perth Foreshore was a great opportunity for families to come together and celebrate in a safe environment.
Activities in the Celebration Zone will finish at 7.30pm but the Zone will stay open until 9pm. The zones are full of activities such as bouncy castles and water games. Explore it by taking a ride on a Rainbow Tractor Train. ■ The City will run a free shuttle bus service between the George Burnett Leisure Centre (cnr Manning and Elderfield rds, Karawara), the City of South Perth Civic Centre (Cnr Sandgate St and South Tce, South Perth) and the event zone every 15 minutes from 10am-9pm, but not during the fireworks (7.30-8.30pm). ■ A shuttle bus with a tail lift for wheelchairs will be available. People with disability unable to get to either centre can call the City on 9474 0777 to discuss alternative arrangements.
■ First aid: There will be an emergency compound east of the flagpole. ■ Lost children: There will be a lost children shelter inside the emergency compound ■ Emergency exits: There are five emergency exits along the fence line. ■ Water: Free drinking water refill stations at various spots. ■ Roads: Some will be closed and no street or verge parking is permitted, with double penalties for all infringements. Illegally parked cars in restricted areas will be towed and impounded.
