An all-day pic­nic is rec­om­mended for the thou­sands who will flock to the fore­shore re­serve as rov­ing artists and char­ac­ters pro­vide en­ter­tain­ment, and the Zone comes alive from 2pm with 100 free ac­tiv­i­ties for ev­ery­one from tod­dlers to adults in a safe, en­closed 100,000sq m area.

It will have seven ac­tiv­ity ar­eas – a Tod­dler and Kids Zone, Kids The­atre, Chal­lenge Area, Sports Zone, Art Zone, Adrenalin Cor- ner and a Rides Park.

The Mar­quee is a place to re­lax in the shade from 2pm and soak up the stage en­ter­tain­ment, in­clud­ing per­form­ers Josephine and Gog­gles, Ban­tus Capoeira, Ricky Pos­sum and the Dance Col­lec­tive.

City of South Perth chief ex­ec­u­tive Cliff Frew­ing said Aus­tralia Day on the South Perth Fore­shore was a great op­por­tu­nity for fam­i­lies to come to­gether and cel­e­brate in a safe en­vi­ron­ment.

Ac­tiv­i­ties in the Cel­e­bra­tion Zone will fin­ish at 7.30pm but the Zone will stay open un­til 9pm. The zones are full of ac­tiv­i­ties such as bouncy cas­tles and wa­ter games. Ex­plore it by tak­ing a ride on a Rainbow Trac­tor Train. ■ The City will run a free shut­tle bus ser­vice be­tween the George Bur­nett Leisure Cen­tre (cnr Man­ning and Elder­field rds, Karawara), the City of South Perth Civic Cen­tre (Cnr Sandgate St and South Tce, South Perth) and the event zone ev­ery 15 min­utes from 10am-9pm, but not dur­ing the fire­works (7.30-8.30pm). ■ A shut­tle bus with a tail lift for wheel­chairs will be avail­able. Peo­ple with dis­abil­ity un­able to get to ei­ther cen­tre can call the City on 9474 0777 to dis­cuss al­ter­na­tive ar­range­ments.

■ First aid: There will be an emer­gency com­pound east of the flag­pole. ■ Lost chil­dren: There will be a lost chil­dren shel­ter inside the emer­gency com­pound ■ Emer­gency ex­its: There are five emer­gency ex­its along the fence line. ■ Wa­ter: Free drink­ing wa­ter re­fill sta­tions at var­i­ous spots. ■ Roads: Some will be closed and no street or verge park­ing is per­mit­ted, with dou­ble penal­ties for all in­fringe­ments. Il­le­gally parked cars in re­stricted ar­eas will be towed and im­pounded.
