THE City of South Perth has cir­cu­lated a list (avail­able on its web­site) of at least 10 sub­stan­tial po­ten­tial dis­ad­van­tages for the pro­posed amal­ga­ma­tion of the City with the Town of Vic­to­ria Park.

Top of the list is the ini­tial net cost of $9.62 mil­lion (less State Gov­ern­ment grants) es­ti­mated across the first four years.

Dis­closed is the scant state­ment “There will be other cap­i­tal costs in fu­ture years, for ex­am­ple full costs for pos­si­ble new coun­cil of­fices”.

Cer­tainly if this was a pub­lic company, de­ci­sions would not be made un­less an es­ti­mated fig­ure had been cal­cu­lated for cap­i­tal costs; but in this in­stance, noth­ing.
