Stingers hope to make a big splash

TWO lo­cal women will join the Aus­tralian women’s wa­ter polo team, the Aussie Stingers, when it lines up against China on Jan­uary 30 at the BHP Bil­li­ton Aquatic Su­per Se­ries in Perth.

Zoe Arancini of East Vic­to­ria Park and Glen­cora McGhie of Como both play for the Fre­man­tle Marlins.

The game against China will take on ex­tra sig­nif­i­cance for world cham­pi­onships sil­ver medal­list Arancini, as it is an op­por­tu­nity to rep­re­sent Aus­tralia in front of her home­town au­di­ence.

Arancini will re­turn from Europe where she has been play­ing for Ital­ian club Cosenza.

The Aussie Stingers will travel to Perth on Jan­uary 24 to pre­pare for their test match, with the game set to kick off at 8.30pm on Fri­day, Jan­uary 30 at Chal­lenge Sta­dium. Other lo­cal Fre­man­tle Marlins play­ers in the team in­clude Lil Hedges, Gemma Beadsworth and Eliesha Browne.
