Program builds young leaders

SOUTHCARE in Manning will launch its Emerging Young Leaders Program tomorrow for the third year running.

The program will welcome 20 young professionals from a diverse range of corporate, government and non-profit backgrounds who share a common passion to use their professional skills to contribute to Board governance within the WA aged care and non-profit sector.

This year’s participants come from a range of professional backgrounds including law, commerce and finance.

Miguel Gomes, senior business analyst at BGC and 2015 participant, said he could use his knowledge to provide insight to a board on perspectives that may not have previously been considered.

The program has a vision to build a worldclass aged care and not-for-profit sector steered by strong, professional leadership which includes skilled, young professionals.

Southcare chief executive and program director Nicky Howe said new talent must be included in the business. “We have to be determined about diversity on boards. We cannot leave young people out,” she said.
