Railway link tender open
EXPRESSIONS of interest for the Forrestfield-Airport Link construction package are open until March 12.
The link will be built as a single design and construct package, with the contract to be awarded next year.
The $2 billion project attracted more than 200 representatives to an industry briefing.
“It was clear from the level of interest in the briefing that the attendees recognised the ground-breaking nature of this project,” Transport Minister Dean Nalder said.
It will create a new rail corridor to Perth’s east, and connect the city to Perth Airport by 2020.
The aim is to create a 20-minute rail journey with stations at Redcliffe, known as Airport West, Perth Airport, called Consolidated Airport, and a station at Forrestfield.
The new Forrestfield line will spur off the existing Midland line near Bayswater and run underground for 8km in twin-bored tunnels beneath the Swan River and Perth Airport.
