HERE TO STAY
I THANK City of South Perth residents for voting No in the amalgamation vote that concluded at 6pm on Saturday, February 7.
This victory is yours and a victory for democracy.
To all who posted your votes in and those who went to the council office over the last three days, a huge thank you for making the effort and being patient and then on Saturday waiting in the sun.
In all, 10,572 people voted No and 3026 people voted Yes.
The No vote was 78.9 per cent, which was a resounding figure.
I also express my appreciation to the Southern Gazette for the letters it printed and the many articles written to bring more awareness of the vote issue.
We can now proudly say we are residents of a 100-year-old City that is here to stay and we retain our wonderful identity. CECILIA BROOKE, chairwoman, City of South Perth Residents' Association.
