I THANK City of South Perth res­i­dents for vot­ing No in the amal­ga­ma­tion vote that con­cluded at 6pm on Satur­day, Fe­bru­ary 7.

This victory is yours and a victory for democ­racy.

To all who posted your votes in and those who went to the coun­cil of­fice over the last three days, a huge thank you for mak­ing the ef­fort and be­ing pa­tient and then on Satur­day wait­ing in the sun.

In all, 10,572 peo­ple voted No and 3026 peo­ple voted Yes.

The No vote was 78.9 per cent, which was a re­sound­ing fig­ure.

I also ex­press my ap­pre­ci­a­tion to the South­ern Gazette for the let­ters it printed and the many ar­ti­cles writ­ten to bring more aware­ness of the vote is­sue.

We can now proudly say we are res­i­dents of a 100-year-old City that is here to stay and we re­tain our won­der­ful iden­tity. CECILIA BROOKE, chair­woman, City of South Perth Res­i­dents' As­so­ci­a­tion.
