Uni pitches in for cup prep

CRICK­ET­ING gi­ants In­dia and the West Indies will join fel­low World Cup com­peti­tor Afghanistan as teams train­ing at Mur­doch Uni­ver­sity in the com­ing weeks.

The In­ter­na­tional Cricket Coun­cil has listed the venue, which un­der­went a se­ri­ous re­vamp a cou­ple of years ago, as an of­fi­cial train­ing venue for ses­sions at the back end of Fe­bru­ary and early March.

Act­ing vice chan­cel­lor An­drew Tag­gart was ex­cited to have in­ter­na­tional crick­ets hon­ing their skills at the uni­ver­sity.

“It’s an op­por­tu­nity to show­case Mur­doch and our world-class fa­cil­i­ties to an in­ter­na­tional au­di­ence,” pro­fes­sor Tag­gart said.

“It also aligns with the strengths of our School of Psy­chol­ogy and Ex­er­cise Science which houses a $4 mil­lion sports science lab­o­ra­tory which is used for con­duct­ing sports re­search in­clud­ing cricket re­search.”

The venue was also used by Australia dur­ing the re­cent ODI tri-se­ries with Eng­land and In­dia.
