COROLLA GETS MAKEOVER
ARRIVING in Australia later this year will be the latest Corolla hatch, featuring a redesigned exterior and a broader stance that gives it more street cred.
Just revealed at the Geneva motor show, the new Corolla also has an enhanced cabin, retuned suspension and steering and improved fuel efficiency from its 103kW 1.8litre engine.
In the looks department, the hatch gets more prominent badging on its nose, flanked by chrome wings that run along the front lip of the bonnet and across the width of the car.
Lower wings sweep down into the upper surface of the front bumper, framing the inside edge of new headlight clusters.
From the side, longer overhangs improve the overall balance of the design.
Inside, there’s new upholstery, a revised dash and detail elements such as the air vents, door handles and gear-lever surround have been redesigned for a higher quality appearance.
Revisions to the suspension have improved initial roll damping, minimised friction and enhanced straight-line ride comfort.
Mapping of the electric power steering has been tuned to add steering weight as vehicle speed increases.
The new Corolla, known as Auris in some markets, will have dynamic lines.
