Parent support group reborn
COUPLE TURN PERSONAL TRAGEDY INTO A GROUP TO HELP OTHERS
WITH six children, nine grandchildren and two big smiles between them, it is hard to believe Janina and Wayne Faulkner once faced challenges no parents would ever want.
With their first partners, both Janina and Wayne faced the difficulties and trauma associated with stillborns and miscarriages.
But they have not let that get them down.
Together, they are hoping to build a network of support agencies for WA so other parents can easily find the support they need.
Mrs Faulkner is the president of Sands WA, a not-for-profit organisation offering miscarriage, stillbirth and newborn death support.
With Mr Faulkner on the board, the couple are building a WA network of support for men and women.
Sands WA formed in Perth in 1979, but fizzled out before re-establishing last year.
“It is a safe, non-judgmental environment where people can share, listen and connect with others who have been through the same things and offer understanding,” Mrs Faulkner said.
