Group now offers support for men as well

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - South Perth Waterford -

JANINA Faulkner is one strong woman, and with the support of her husband, they are an even stronger team.

About 30 years ago, with her first partner, she gave birth to her first child Keith, who was stillborn. She can’t describe how she got through it. “I just did,” she said.

What she does know is that she could not have done so without the support of Sands WA.

“Someone I knew put me in touch with Sands WA, and after they did, I lived for those meetings,” she said.

Her husband Wayne has a different story after he and his first wife went through the heartache of miscarriage and found support for men lacking.

“It was a difficult time as we didn’t have a lot of family or friends for support,” he said.

Mr Faulkner’s role at Sands WA is to open the communication portal for men.

“Men feel they can’t talk to their mates or even partner because they have to be the strong support role,” he said.

Sands WA monthly meetings include supporters who have gone through miscarriage.
