Memorial wall progressing well
THE Town of Victoria Park will decide at a special meeting tonight, if it will add another $54,000 to the $144,000 it has already contributed to the Victoria Park RSL memorial wall project.
At last Tuesday’s ordinary council meeting, Victoria Park RSL subbranch president Kelvin Liddiard said he’d been in discussions with Town representatives until as late as 2pm that day, working towards an outcome for residents and ratepayers whose friends and relatives were among the 400-plus locals who volunteered their service in the darkest days of WWI.
Mayor Trevor Vaughan said discussions with Mr Liddiard about the project had been positive and councillors would discuss the matter again at a special meeting from 6.30 tonight.
Mr Liddiard hoped the memorial wall, with 432 bronze name plaques, would be ready for the Anzac centenary.
