Solid start in Seniors for Gabel

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Looklocal -

SOUTH Perth’s Brendan Gabel competed in last weekend’s first round of the WA Bodyboard Titles in Yallingup and came home with a fourth place in the Over-24 Senior Men’s division.

Surfing WA events manager Justin Majeks said Gabel joined an impressive field of WA’s most experienced and exciting body- boarders, who relished the powerful and punchy surf off Yallingup.

About 70 competitors made the most of two excellent locations – Mousetraps and Smith Beach – as champions were crowned across eight divisions.

“We were lucky enough to utilise a couple of great spots this weekend, which served up a real test for our competitors,” Majeks said. “A shallow reef break day one, then an open beach, which was a bit of a swell magnet for the finals.”

Attention now turns to the next stop on the SunSmart WA Bodyboard Titles which head to Mandurah in May and Scarborough in June, before Nationals in August.
