ANYONE who has found themselves dancing to the famous song If I Were a Rich Man from Fiddler on the Roof, may want to check out the beginner’s class held by Israeli dance group Hora Shalom.
The group is celebrating its 20th anniversary and the central focus will be a workshop in South Perth in April.
Hora Shalom, which means ‘peace dance’ in Hebrew, started in Fremantle with a handful of Israeli dance enthusiasts and has grown into a large group of keen dancers and friends who attend a range of classes and take part in performances and other events.
Hora Shalom’s publicity officer Jenny Shah said the classes and activities were a good way of keeping fit.
“Israeli dance is a fun, enjoyable way to exercise as well as being a great social activity. The classes are fun and held in a low-pressure and friendly environment and everyone is welcome,” she said.
To celebrate 20 years of Israeli dance, the group convinced well-known choreographer Oren Ashkenazi to visit Australia for the first time and teach the group a new dance.
The beginners’ class is being held on the Sunday.
