THE Graduate Dramatic Society (GRADS) will perform a season of Christopher Marlowe’s Doctor Faustus at UWA’s New Fortune Theatre until Saturday.

Victoria Park actor and director Stephen Lee, who also plays four roles in the production, said Marlowe’s masterpiece was thoughtful, darkly funny and intensely truthful.

“In a tour de force of juggling different styles, Marlowe’s play swings from powerful and impassioned poetry to broadly hilarious comedy as Faustus fritters away his time in a series of practical jokes and magical tricks,” Lee said.

“As his last hour ticks away, Faustus must face his own demons and struggle with pride to ask God forgiveness.”

Lee moved to Perth from London in 2002 and directed his first play at New Fortune Theatre, The Taming of the Shrew, in 2003.

He has worked on GRADS productions Much Ado about Nothing, Midsummer Night's Dream, Noises Off, What the Butler Saw and Aladdin.
