Drivers get a warning

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Como -

CANNING highway in Como has been rated as Perth’s fifth most likely place to have a car accident.

In the latest figures released by insurer AAMI, 46 crashes occurred in the region last year with bad driving, loss of concentration and carelessness cited as the top three reasons for accidents.

Albany Highway at Cannington topped the list with 89 crashes, closely followed by 70 on Joondalup Drive, 50 on Pinjarra Road, Mandurah and 49 on Nicholson Road in Canning Vale.

AAMI’s Reuben Aitchison said high traffic volume at major traffic light intersections were contributing factors in accidents and drivers needed to be vigilant.

“Our advice is simple – if you find yourself driving on one of these accident-prone stretches of road or in heavy traffic, leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front, concentrate on your driving and expect the unexpected from other road users,” he said.
