Volunteering a gift to community

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Manning Belmont Victoria Park - VICKI MORRELL

”VOLUNTEERING is the ultimate exercise in democracy. You vote in elections as they come around but when you volunteer, you vote every day about the kind of community you want to live in.” - Author Unknown

It is interesting how many people say they don’t volunteer because they aren’t interested in standing on a corner rattling a can! While that activity is very valuable it is not the only one available.

At Southcare, we have many positions for people with time on their hands and caring in their hearts.

You can be a community driver safely delivering clients to appointments when they can no longer drive themselves; work in our op shop or the Mankara community food store helping customers with their purchases.

We have volunteers who help our financial counsellor interview those in need of emergency relief, some who join activities at the New Horizons social centre, people who visit the lonely in our community and still others that help in reception with the accounts and administration.

If you have retired from work, don’t waste your skills, consider putting them to good use.

Southcare advertises positions at www.volunteering.org.au or contact Vicki Morell by email at vicki.m@southcare. org.au or call 9450 6233.
