Solemn night of song

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - South Perth -

SOUTH Perth’s St Mary’s Church will be the venue for a candlelit concert on Good Friday to recognise one of the most solemn days on the Christian calendar.

Applecross Mezzo-soprano Fleuranne Brockway and Nedlands soprano Brianna Louwen will perform Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater with director and organist Alessandro Pittorino and the St Mary’s Church chamber string orchestra led by Jasmin Parkinson-Stewart.

Stabat Mater is a sequence of 12 Latin verses that commemorate the sorrows of the Virgin Mary as she stands at the foot of the cross on which her Son is dying.

The performance will last about 40 minutes. There is no intermission and no refreshments, in keeping with the solemnity of the music.
