Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

BEN, Ben, Ben. You can almost hear Ben Cousins’ name being murmured all over Perth, each time his name pops up in the news - because it’s almost never good, even though we wish it was. We are on first-name terms with the Bicton resident, who is no longer a young lad with a proud footy career, but a soul lost to drugs. It’s every family’s nightmare. Sadly, it is a daily reality for Ben’s nearest and dearest and while we don’t want to feel pity, it’s preferable to those who still sneer and joke about his all-too-common plight, even using it as a way to sledge their opposing hometown footy team. It’s no laughing matter. This is what pain looks like; imagine how it feels. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.
