Gatsby for guide dogs

A GREAT Gatsby-themed party is be­ing thrown to raise funds for the Vic­to­ria Park-based Guide Dogs As­so­ci­a­tion of WA.

Or­gan­iser Nik Peran said both his wife and a friend had un­der­gone op­er­a­tions to re­pair de­tached reti­nas and he was so over­whelmed with the sup­port they re­ceived that he de­cided to or­gan­ise the ball to fundraise for an or­gan­i­sa­tion that helps many peo­ple with vi­sion im­pair­ment.

Mr Peran said he was hop­ing to raise $6000.

“It’s a Roar­ing ’20s themed oc­ca­sion with a band, big dance floor and other en­ter­tain­ment,” he said. “Peo­ple are en­cour­aged to dress up and the venue will be fully styled in the era.

“Any­one who can swing, dance ball­room or rock ‘n’ roll will be thrilled and non-dancers will be en­ter­tained with com­pe­ti­tions, raf­fles and other ac­tiv­i­ties.

“Visibility needs on­go­ing sup­port to help the 40,000 West Aus­tralians who live with vi­sion prob­lems or blind­ness.

“By com­ing along, peo­ple are sup­port­ing a wor­thy cause and it’s a cause they may need them­selves one day.”

The Great Gatsby Ball will be held on Satur­day at the Spear­wood Dal­matinac Club from 7.30pm to mid­night.
