THEFTS FROM VEHICLES ON THE RISE
RECENT crime figures have put a spotlight on stealing offences from vehicles. These offences are increasing, typically because of some common factors and the ability to commit the offence in little time. These factors include the high volume of potential targets (cars are parked everywhere), the lower risk of detection as opposed to breaking into a house and the high propensity for victims to leave property in their cars, creating opportunity. Although we have charged several people in recent times with these offences, the sheer weight of opportunity means stealing from cars is still a concern.
