Excitement as Aqua Games splash down
THE Swan River in Burswood was the location for the inaugural Aqua X Games, a showcase of some of the world’s best women’s and men’s waterskiers and wakeboarders.
The women’s jump events showed off Australian talent, with local Jacinta Carroll outdistancing the rest of the field.
The men’s jump proved very interesting, with hometown competitor Ryan Green securing his place in the final with a solid display.
The last jumper was Freddy Krueger, who after two jumps appeared as though he may not qualify for the final. But on the last jump of the day, he managed to pull out all stops and post the best jump of the day to take top seed position for the final.
The men’s wakeboard finals also showed the quality of Australian water sports athletes, with Tony Iacconi scoring an exceptional 74.44.
Weather conditions restricted the athletes on the day of the finals but large crowds gathered to watch the evening of show ski performances, barefoot skiers, wakeboard demonstrations and the waterski big jumpers.
