SCULPTURE LIGHTS THE WAY AT AIRPORT

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Lifestyle -

ART THE next time you are lucky enough to return from an overseas trip, cast your eyes upwards when you enter the arrivals area at Perth Airport.

Local artist Penelope Forlano took the idea of sculpture from the floor to the wall for a piece the airport asked her to create, lighting up the arrivals area at the Perth International Airport.

Forlano said she enjoyed being able to create meaningful installations and engaging environments.

“I based the design on expressing the interconnectedness of people and environment, all living together under the stars,” she said.

“The artwork’s primary form reflects the constellation of Orion, the hunter/warrior, and Pleiades, the seven sisters, as these stars have been a means of telling very similar mythical stories across millennia and various cultures.

“I’m currently exploring kinship through a range of heirloom objects and would like to create more community heirlooms for this city through public installations.”
