LOCAL landscape designer Margaret Matthews will hold a Native Garden Design Workshop for the Murdoch branch of the WA Wildflower Society this month.

Dr Matthews, a biologist and member of the society and Friends of Wireless Hill, has loved gardening since childhood, caring for her first garden before she even started school.

“I had my first garden when I was four-years-old and have been in love with plants ever since,” the former research scientist said. “As a biolo

gist I have learned about

the interactions in ecosystems and believe we can help to nurture

the natural world and nurture ourselves at the same

time.” The event will be held 10am-3pm on Saturday, May 23 at Cockburn Wetlands Education Centre, Hope

Road, Bibra Lake. The cost is $40, or $30 for society members, and limited bookings can be made by emailing wildflowers@ozemail.com.au or call society HQ on 9383 7979, Tuesdays and Thursdays 10am-2.30pm.

A banksia and everlastings in Margaret Matthews’ garden.
