ENJOY CHARM OF YESTERYEAR
DANCING IN these days of retro revitalisation, an old-fashioned dance party for partner dancing will be held in Victoria Park on Saturday from 8pm.
Held by the Vic Park Collective, the free event was inspired by Finnish journalist and founder of Restaurant Day Timo Santala, who stayed in the Town during FORM’s Public program.
Collective member Nora Beahan said Santala promoted oldfashioned dance parties in Helsinki, and told Collective members of the joy Finnish people had being able to dance together again.
“He joked that sometimes he felt like the biggest pimp in Helsinki, referring to several couples that met at his parties,” Nora said.
The event will be held at the Victoria Park and Carlisle Bowling Club, which Nora said was a perfect site due to its timber dance floor, bar and central loca- tion. “If you think that dancing with a partner, cheek to cheek and hand in hand, is old school, you are so right. Nowadays the norm at nightclubs everywhere is to dance alone or in groups, but who doesn’t miss the charm of a good old-fashioned dance,” she said.
“We’ll provide the dance floor and music, you bring your dancing shoes and friends”.
The bowls club is at 18 Kent Street and has ample parking.
