Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

CURTIN FM staff were all smiles after the public showed their continued support for the station by donating more than $102,000 during the annual Radiothon.

The amount was raised from more than 1900 individual donations, ranging from $2 to $1000 and included a number of raffled items donated by station sponsors.

Station manager Quinn Glasson thanked all those who donated to the Radiothon and said the total was evidence of the loyalty of Curtin FM’s listeners and volunteers.

“The continued success of Radiothon is proof of the strength of Curtin FM as a community network,” Mr Glasson said.

“Each year the Curtin FM staff and volunteers work tirelessly to co-ordinate the event and the total is testament to this effort.”

More than 50 station volun- teers took calls, collated pledges and assisted with the five-day event.

Curtin University Vice-President, Corporate Relations and Development Valerie Raubeheimer said the money raised from Radiothon goes straight back into running the station, including the cadet journalism program for Curtin students.

“The donations that come in year after year demonstrate how much the community appreciates Curtin FM and wants it to continue its great work,” Ms Raubenheimer said.

“The money raised also supports the cadet journalism program which offers a unique training experience for students.”

Curtin FM is Western Australia’s largest community radio station with more than 200,000 listeners weekly.

Curtin FM staff celebrate after receiving more than $100,000 in donations.
