Moustaka up to task in over-50s
GRAHAM Moustaka, of South Perth, won the Over-50 Men’s division in the WA Stand Up Paddleboarding State titles at Rottnest Island on May 10.
He took out the division on 13.60pts.
Mosman Park’s Susannah Wilson took out the Open Women’s division.
In the inaugural professional Stand Up Surf Shop Rottnest Classic, also at Strickland Bay, Wesley Fry, of Bicton came fourth in a thrilling 30-minute men’s final.
Scoring 11.90 points, and a $450 prize purse, Fry came in behind winner Justin Holland (Kingscliff, NSW) and second and third placegetters, Gracetown brothers Rick and Jake Jakovich.
The NSW winner, ranked fourth on the Stand Up World Tour, finished on 14.60pts ($2200) while the Jakovich brothers finished on 13.53 and 13.30pts respectively ($1200, $650).
The WA SUP State Titles were also completed on the day, with a bumper field of entrants revelling in their first opportunity at Rottnest Island.
Fry finished third in the Open Men’s state titles, behind Jake and Rick Jakovich, and ahead of Geraldton competitor Ben Mardon in fourth. It was the first time stand up paddle events had ever been held at Rottnest Island.
