Mous­taka up to task in over-50s

GRA­HAM Mous­taka, of South Perth, won the Over-50 Men’s di­vi­sion in the WA Stand Up Pad­dle­board­ing State ti­tles at Rot­tnest Is­land on May 10.

He took out the di­vi­sion on 13.60pts.

Mos­man Park’s Su­san­nah Wil­son took out the Open Women’s di­vi­sion.

In the in­au­gu­ral pro­fes­sional Stand Up Surf Shop Rot­tnest Clas­sic, also at Strick­land Bay, Wes­ley Fry, of Bicton came fourth in a thrilling 30-minute men’s fi­nal.

Scor­ing 11.90 points, and a $450 prize purse, Fry came in be­hind win­ner Justin Hol­land (Kingscliff, NSW) and sec­ond and third placeget­ters, Grace­town broth­ers Rick and Jake Jakovich.

The NSW win­ner, ranked fourth on the Stand Up World Tour, fin­ished on 14.60pts ($2200) while the Jakovich broth­ers fin­ished on 13.53 and 13.30pts re­spec­tively ($1200, $650).

The WA SUP State Ti­tles were also com­pleted on the day, with a bumper field of en­trants rev­el­ling in their first op­por­tu­nity at Rot­tnest Is­land.

Fry fin­ished third in the Open Men’s state ti­tles, be­hind Jake and Rick Jakovich, and ahead of Ger­ald­ton com­peti­tor Ben Mar­don in fourth. It was the first time stand up pad­dle events had ever been held at Rot­tnest Is­land.
