ABOUT 4.50pm on Saturday, May 23, Traffic Enforcement Group officers stopped a man driving west along Great Eastern Highway in Burswood for using his mobile phone. Officers stopped the car and while speaking to the driver about the traffic infringement they saw the driver was holding a knife. The driver was arrested and a search of the vehicle located a machete in the driver’s door, two knives and drug paraphernalia. A 43-year-old Calista man has been charged with use of a mobile phone while driving, obstructing police and possessing controlled weapons. He is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court on June 19.
