Grant gives plant a boost

KEW­DALE-based man­u­fac­turer Fero Group is in­vest­ing more than $23 mil­lion to build a state-of-the-art au­to­mated gal­vanis­ing plant to ex­pand its prod­uct range for ex­port mar­kets.

Swan MHR Steve Irons vis­ited the plant af­ter the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment as­sisted the man­u­fac­turer with a $4.9 mil­lion grant.

“This fund­ing will en­sure Fero Group re­mains a com­pet­i­tive and sus­tain­able busi­ness in Swan,” Mr Irons said.

“The grant funds will sig­nif­i­cantly speed up the tim­ing of the project lead­ing to a more com­pet­i­tive busi­ness, greater ex­ports and more em­ploy­ment,” he said.

Mr Irons said Fero Group can now in­vest in more so­phis­ti­cated knowl­edge in in­ten­sive man­u­fac­tur­ing, cre- at­ing high-value jobs in ar­eas where the great­est eco­nomic op­por­tu­ni­ties ex­ist.

Of the 79 busi­nesses that ap­plied for fund­ing un­der the Fed­eral Gov­ern­ment’s Man­u­fac­tur­ing Tran­si­tion Pro­gram, 19 re­ceived be­tween $1 mil­lion and $5 mil­lion.
