Marcus tired of watching

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Sport -

HE might have a warm smile, but tennis player Marcus Bouckaert has a mean hit.

Size also does not mean everything to the 17-yearold, who has an Australian men’s ranking of 294.

On top of that, the Year 12 Aquinas College student has bragging rights as the school’s best tennis player.

He was named as Aquinas’ champion tennis player last year.

Marcus partly has his three older brothers to thank for his tennis success.

Bored watching them bat and bowl on the cricket field, he decided to go with a friend to play tennis.

He hasn’t looked back since, with his love of the game growing while his talent flourished.

“I enjoy the mental challenge, friends and travelling,” Marcus said.

The athlete was selected in the State School Sport tennis team.

On May 1, the team travelled to Hobart to compete in the Pizzey Cup. WA finished fourth. “I only lost in my matches against Victoria and New South Wales,” Marcus said.

He said he would like a scholarship to an American college.
