Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - News -

BELMONT TWO social housing properties managed by Stellar Living have had rate exemptions approved by the City of Belmont.

The not-for-profit organisation is a social investor, providing affordable, quality, housing to people who cannot get into the private market.

Stellar have applied to have their rates exempt from two properties in the City – 1/360 Acton Avenue, Kewdale and 28 Brindley Street, Belmont – for the 2013-14 and 2014-15 financial years.

The City of Belmont will lose nearly $4000 of revenue by agreeing to the exemption.

Department of Housing Acting General Manager (Commercial Operations) Nigel Hindmarsh confirmed these were not new properties and therefore would not increase the amount of social housing in the area.

“1/360 Acton Ave, Kewdale and 28 Brindley Street, Belmont are owned by the Department of Housing and managed by Stellar Living under the Crisis Accommodation Program,” he said.

These properties have been managed by outside agencies like Stellar since 1994 (Acton Avenue) and 1992 (Brindley Street).

Department of Housing General Manager (Service Delivery) Greg Cash said that as of April 30 this year there were 2228 properties for social housing in the South City Zone, of which 2071 were public housing properties.

The zone includes Belmont, Carlisle, Cloverdale, East Victoria Park, Kewdale, Lathlain, Redcliffe and Rivervale.
