d439173 THE tall white church on top of the hill on Leonard Street, Victoria Park is like a second home for Maurine Callard, who has been going to the church for 66 years.

St Peter’s Anglican Church will celebrate its 80th anniversary this weekend and for long-time parishioners like Mrs Callard, it is a special day.

Mrs Callard (89) began going to St Peter’s in 1949 with her parents.

She got married there and had children christened and confirmed at the church.

“You think of it like your second home,” she said.

“Its warm and welcoming and I have always felt comfortable there.

“I don’t know if I have ever missed a Sunday service.”

She said she had seen quite a few changes over the years, including a few building changes and changes to how services went.

Mrs Callard has belonged to most of the organisations over the years but now takes the role as parish archivist.
