University schools Ellenbrook

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Sport -

CURTIN University Football Club defeated Ellenbrook United 1-0 on Saturday with Eddie Tikoft getting the only goal of the match for the home side.

Tikoft was well supported by the returning Antony Russo, the tireless Khaled Salhah and makeshift centre back Jon Krawec.

In an exciting first half it was all Curtin as Rory Binnie caused trouble for the visitors along with Russo who was influential in the middle of the park.

Curtin hit the front when Dilip Thapa sent a long throw into the box. Ellenbrook failed to clear their lines and Tikoft was able to head home to give his side a deserved lead.

Both Binnie and Thapa had chances to extend the lead but were unable to finish and the teams went into the break with only one goal scored.

Curtin again had the lion’s share of possession in the second half but struggled to hit the target at times with Binnie heading wide early on and Tikoft also putting his header wide late in the half.

On Saturday Curtin travel to take on fourth-placed Fremantle City.
