Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

AFTER all the controversy mentioned in your newspaper a few weeks ago regarding the Etwell Street “art work", we thought you and fellow readers would be interested in the attached photograph showing the work in situ in the unofficial "Etwell Street community rubbish tip".

On the other hand, is it in fact a new environmental sculpture we do not know about or are to artistically ignorant to recognise and only see it as a pile of rubbish?

Good to know the Town of Victoria Park invested our ratepayer money on “art work” in such a "highprofile, high-traffic" area that is so highly regarded by the neighbouring residents that they have added their rubbish to it.

Alternatively, is it just indicative of the council's lack of willingness to address the ongoing rubbish and trolley dumping problem that spills over to a culture among many residents?

Perhaps if a portion of the art budget were redirected to this problem that in itself would help the aesthetics of the area.

Other council areas seem to manage this problem more effectively than this Town does. PHIL and WENDY GRIMBLY, East Victoria Park.
