Town praised for water initiatives
THE Town of Victoria Park has achieved milestone four in the Local Governments for Sustainability’s Water Campaign.
The international campaign aims to help councils to reduce water consumption and improve water quality.
Since 2007, the Town has reduced its water use by 31.5 per cent, the equivalent of seven Olympic-size swimming pools.
Mayor Trevor Vaughan said that upgrading reticulation in parks and clustering plants with similar water needs together had significantly reduced the council’s water use.
Upgrades have been made at Fletcher Park, Carlisle Reserve, Fraser Park, Shepperton Road, Asquith Reserve, Devenish Reserve, State St Reserve and Harold Rossiter Park.
The Town has also improved water quality entering waterways through its Stormwater Management Plan.
Reclaimed stormwater is used to irrigate Charles Patterson Park, Taylor Reserve and McCallum Park.
