Eagle’s flying visit to champion school
VICTORIA Park Primary School students were delighted to meet one of their idols when West Coast Eagles forward Fraser McInnes visited the school to present the Eagles Cup to the school’s champion team.
The 11-year-old students took out the Eagles Cup for the first time this year, winning all three of their matches.
The Eagles Cup is WA’s premier primary interschool competition for years 5 to 7 students.
It uses special modified rules to encourage maximum player partic- ipation, development and enjoyment.
After the cup presentation on June 30, the junior football players were taken through their paces in a quick training session with the upand-coming West Coast Eagles player, who said it was great to be back in his old neighbourhood.
“It is great to get back on the ground training with the juniors in the community where I grew up, playing for the South Perth Stingrays junior football team,” McInnes said.
Victoria Park Primary football team captain Daniel Gay and vicecaptain Rohan Ibrahim said they were excited to win the competition this year.
“I scored four goals this year and I really love to play in the forward line,” Gay said.
The Eagles Cup allows hundreds of schools to participate in the competition from all parts of the State, providing them with equipment and support materials to deliver the program without being reliant on sponsors.
