Town takes green approach to informing its residents
THE Town of Victoria Park is taking letter writing to a new level. A selection of households in the Town will soon receive a friendly introduction letter from a new green-leafed friend, as 210 trees of varying species are planted in the verges outside homes by the Town’s Parks team. The letter is written from the point of view of the young tree and is an introduction to the resident as it outlines its species name, the benefits of its presence and how best to care for it. Also included in the welcome package is a watering bucket and satchels of fertiliser and water-saving granules. “People get all sorts of mail – advertising, bank statements – but I don’t think anyone in WA has had the pleasure of receiving a friendly letter from a young tree before,” Town chief executive Anthony Vuleta said. “This is a new approach to get people to engage with the care of these new trees, creating a sense of pride in their community and becoming further invested in their area.” If residents feel their tree needs some extra care they can contact the Town on 9311 8111 and a service request will be sent to the Parks team to assist.
