STALWARTS SET FOR TARGA TEST
TARGA West stalwart Jim Richards and co-driver Barry Oliver are back, likewise Peter Rullo and Jimmy Marquet and nearly 70 other teams to contest WA’s premier tarmac event from August 13 to 16.
Richards and Oliver will be in a Porsche Cayman while Rullo and Marquet are having another stab with their superquick Nissan GTR35, which on previous occasions looked to be a winner, then retired with mainly electrical hassles.
The event, which starts and stops in Perth, is again a magic mix of modern and classic cars, including favourites such as Mustangs, Toranas, Porsches, Lancer Evos and Subaru WRXs, with a smattering of exotica like a Lancia Delta Integrale, the mighty Gunson/Lunsmann Capri Perana and an Alfa 147 GTA spicing up the field.
Triumph tragic Martin Eyer, of Gwelup, who considered racing his yacht instead of his car, is in the Classic Challenge division again, and fireworks are sure to result when the two Datsun 240s of the
Manolo Photography Moirs and the Lingfords meet again in Classic Competition. As before, the event starts from Forrest Place on Thursday, August 13, and finishes on the Perth foreshore on Sunday, August 16.
The event’s 34 stages will take competitors to Wanneroo, Malaga, Whiteman Park, Kalamunda, Toodyay, Lower Chittering, Bullsbrook and Perth City in the four days.

Unlucky so far, but poised for a win is the Nissan GTR 35 of Peter Rullo and Jimmy Marquet.
