Gem of a fundraiser

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

OLIVIA is among teenagers from Princess Margaret Hospital’s Ward 7Teen who are working with jewellers Soklich & Co to create an auction item to raise money for Starlight Children’s Foundation.

Over the past few months, Soklich & Co jewellery designer Terry Hunt has taken patients through workshops to create designs for a one-off diamond ring that will be auctioned at the Starlight Five Chefs Dinner in September.

Final designs completed by the teenagers will be put out for public vote at PMH and the winning designer will be invited to Soklich & Co’s workshop in South Perth to brief jewellers on the finer details and eventually help make it.

The ring will reflect Starlight’s philosophy of brightening the lives of seriously ill children and their families.

It will include Argyle dia-

d440769 monds, tanzanite and 18-carat yellow and white gold.

Mr Hunt said workshops were being held in the Livewire adolescent rooms that have a strict “no adult admission”.

“I feel it’s something of an honour to be invited into this teenage sanctuary,” he said.

Starlight Hospital Programs manager Emma Cahill said the workshops were a great way to positively disrupt the hospital environment. “For a sick teen to have their design brought to life is an amazing opportunity,’’ Ms Cahill said.
