Forums about airport rail line

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

RESIDENTS and business owners along the route of Perth’s proposed $2 billion underground rail line to the airport are being invited to find out more about the project.

The ForrestfieldAirport Link will be tunnelled underground from a junction near Bayswater Station, under the Swan River and the airport, and out to Forrestfield.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said the new train line would open up Perth’s eastern suburbs to the rail network for the first time and give Perth airport users a travel option that was quicker to the city than driving in a car.

Due to open in 2020, the rail link will connect with the existing Midland Line near Bayswater and run underground to Forrestfield to ensure minimal impact on land and roads.

The community information sessions will be held during the last week of August in Bayswater, where the line spurs off the existing Midland Line for people who will access the new Airport West Station and Forrestfield and High Wycombe. To register for the sessions, visit www.forrestfield airportlink.wa.gov.au.
