Join in to learn how to recycle

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

BETWEEN 2001 and 2007, the amount of waste sent to landfill across the country increased from 19.0 million tonnes to 21.3 million tonnes, according to the Australian Bureau of Statistics.

While councils strive to improve their recycling programs, the impact of waste material on our environment is hard to calculate, and even harder to calculate is the cost of littering and illegal dumping.

To combat the problem, the City of South Perth has just signed up to take part in the 2015 Garage Sale Trail.

The event is a national waste education program, which promotes re-use and recycling movement with more than 150 local councils taking part.

The event is designed as a way to get the entire community to reduce waste to landfill, build communities and enable households, schools, community groups and businesses to fundraise at local level.

The event will take place on Saturday, October 24. To register for the Sale Trial visit garagesaletrail.com.au
