Teen band figuring on the local scene

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

A FREMANTLE band is making waves in the WA music industry after being the youngest band to make it to The Big Splash competition.

East Fremantle’s Matt Murphy and Josh Gallagher, North Fremantle’s Ross Mace and Floreat’s Chet Morgan might still be toiling away in high school, but that has not stopped the group making a name for themselves with their indie band Figurehead.

They will compete in the semi-finals of the competition on Friday; one of 10 bands left from the 207 entrants.

Only two bands from each of the two semi-finals will make it into the grand final.

Lead singer Matt said making it into the final 10 was a big honour, and gave them the chance to compete for the $10,000 first prize.

“It’s just awesome to be able to play alongside some of our favourite WA bands like Foam and The High Leary’s, who we’ll be competing with at The Big Splash gig at The Rosemount Hotel,” he said.

Figurehead compete in the second semi-final at the Rosemount Hotel on August 7.

Fremantle band Figurehead: Matt Murphy (guitar and vocals), Josh Gallagher (guitar and vocals), Chet Morgan (drums) and Ross Mace (bass).
