Line markings to ease freeway congestion

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - News -

PERTH A TWO-year rollout of freeway line markings to ease traffic congestion has started.

Transport Minister Dean Nalder said $8.5 million would be spent implementing changes to line markings at freeway merges, including on-ramps to the Kwinana and Mitchell freeways and five off-ramps.

“At on-ramps the improvements involve using a better defined merge line between the onramp and the freeway traffic lanes that improves merging behaviour,” he said.

At the five off-ramps, the merge will be removed completely to create an exclusive exit lane, which has already happened at Hutton Street.

The changes follow a recent Main Roads trial of merge-line treatments to on-ramps.
