THE Governor of Western Australia, Her Excellency the Honourable Kerry Sanderson AO toured Ngala’s Kensington premises on Thursday, August 6, in her first official visit since becoming patron of the organisation.

The Governor is a long-time supporter of the early parenting and childhood charity.

“I chose to accept patronage of Ngala because I know from my own experience how precious the relationship of a mother with her young child is, and Ngala provides a wonderful service for parents in need,” the Governor said.

“Early parenting is critical for a child’s development and new mothers sometimes lack confidence and need advice, and many don’t have family support, which is where Ngala is particularly important.

“Ngala is well known for its helpline as well as its day and overnight-stay intensive service for parents who need more inten- sive services. Seeing for myself the commitment of all staff to helping the parents and young children, as well as viewing the facilities, reinforced to me the importance of the service provided,” she said.

Friends of Ngala president Hon Barbara Scott, Ngala chief executive Ashley Reid and Ngala Board chairman Martin Black greeted the Governor before being taken her on a tour of the facility.

The tour concluded with a morning tea, attended by

d441445 Friends of Ngala members and Ngala’s senior staff.

Mr Reid said it was an honour to have the Governor’s support as Patron of the organisation in this, its 125th year of service.

“I was thrilled to host the Governor on a visit and tour of Ngala’s services in Kensington,” Mr Reid said.

“The Governor showed a keen interest in the valuable early parenting services offered by Ngala and a deep understanding of the importance of the early years for children and families.”
