$2M FUNDING AS COUNCILS MATCH STATE GOVERNMENT

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - Opinion -

THE Swan and Canning rivers will benefit from almost $2 million in funding for foreshore restoration projects in 2015-16, after 12 new restoration projects were announced by the State Government.

Environment Minister Albert Jacob said the projects would be focused on protecting open space, foreshores, infrastructure, improving water quality and the public amenity of the rivers.

More than $674,000 in grants will be shared across 10 councils, including the cities of Armadale, Gosnells, Canning and Melville.

Another $1.326 million is being negotiated with local governments for other priority works.

This year’s funding will also enable the City of South Perth to complete the Mends Street river wall replacement project.

“A key feature of the program is the collaboration with local government matching the State’s contribution for river restoration projects, resulting in more than $22 million invested in our city rivers since 2008,” Mr Jacob said.
