SOUTH­ERN Perth artists have a chance at tak­ing home $7000 worth of prizes in the City of South Perth’s 2015 Emerg­ing Artist Award.

The ma­jor prize win­ner will re­ceive $4000, with the win­ning art­work added to the city’s art col­lec­tion along­side last year’s win­ning en­try, Matthew McAlpine’s The Dark Heart of the Land.

The com­pe­ti­tion is open to up­com­ing artists and stu­dents to en­cour­age and dis­play artis­tic tal­ent in the south.

“The award is a well es­tab­lished art prize and for over 12 years has pro­vided sup­port and en­cour­age­ment to many de­vel­op­ing artists,” City of South Perth Mayor Sue Do­herty said.

“The city proudly sup­ports artists and the lo­cal art scene by host­ing these awards.

“Artists have a great op­por­tu­nity to show­case their skills and pub­licly ex­hibit work.”

Lim­ited to one en­try an artist, art­works can be 2D, such as paint­ings or pho­tog­ra­phy, or 3D, such as sculp­ture.

En­tries must be re­ceived by 5pm Fri­day, Septem­ber18, 2015.

Se­lected works can be viewed in the City of South Perth Com­mu­nity Hall from Oc­to­ber 23 to 31.
