SIMPLE WAYS YOU CAN HELP US FIGHT CRIME
YOU may have heard about Operation Sweep, WA Police's quick response to an unseasonal rise in crime across Perth during July. Officers in the south-east are part of that operation, so don't be surprised if you see more police in your area in next few months. Crime normally drops off in the winter months, but it hasn't this year. Burglaries, stealing, car thefts and property damage are up in particular, which is concerning to us. We know crystal meth is one driver, but it's not the only one. Police analysts are working hard to ascertain exactly why we have had a spike. In the meantime, there are dozens of police actions across the district happening right now, and this is having an impact on crime already. We have been targeting repeat offenders and also those geographic locations where we know crime occurs. Car parks, shopping centres, cafe strips and train stations are all hot spots on our radar. Residential areas are also getting attention. We're making good progress, but you can help: Lock your car and never leave valuables inside your car. Lock doors and windows in your house, even when you're inside or out in the back garden. Report crime to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 if you know about it. It might be just the information we need.
Keep bags and other possessions close when out in public, such as at the shops. We'll keep you updated as Operation Sweep progresses.
