CLASSIC FAMILY-FRIENDLY STYLE
IN the heart of Como on a leafy, family-friendly street is this character-filled residence hidden behind a secure fence and charming garden on 408sq m.
The 1960s brick-and-tile dwelling has all the trappings of a classic Australian home, from high ceilings and decorative cornicing to solid timber flooring and ornate arches.
The owners and their two children bought the property five years ago.
“The person who owned the house before was an interior decorator so it has been done up beautifully, there was nothing that we had to do,” the husband said.
“But we did add the remote-controlled gate at the front and have done a few bits and pieces like repolish the floors a couple of years ago.”
Past the leadlight entry, the house reveals a practical floor plan that will work well for families who love to entertain.
The first living space is a formal lounge with a beautiful ceiling rose, gas fireplace and french doors that open it up to the front garden, which has a mulberry tree.
“This is great for us and the kids because it means we’re all together in the one room,” the husband said. “When we open it out to the front veranda, it’s so beautiful in the evenings and we can watch the kids as they kick the footy in the garden.”
Inside the house, there is also a light-drenched open-plan meals area with a kitchen tucked away neatly in an alcove.
