Pets can break the ice
PETS are being spruiked as a way to address social isolation, following recent research. The Pet Factor study, conducted in part by UWA, found that 54 per cent of people had got to know someone in their neighbourhood as a direct result of their pet. One quarter of people said they had met at least one person through their pet. Lead author of the study, associate professor Lisa Wood from UWA, said pets created opportunities for interpersonal interactions that could lead to deep, human friendships.
