HARD WORK ALL DONE

FAMILY HOME FULLY RENOVATED OVER SEVERAL YEARS

PERCHED high on a hill in South Perth, sandwiched between Mill Point Road and Canning Highway, is this lavishly presented family residence.

Owners Christine and Adam bought the home in 2003.

“We’ve done three lots of renovations and extensions,” Christine said.

“It’s been a real work in progress as we bought it before we had kids and the house grew as the family grew.

“Most recently, we redid the upstairs – it was originally the main living area – and then extended the ground floor; the pool was added four years ago.”

Privately tucked away behind high walls and established gardens, the double-storey house is unassuming and modest from the street.

But past the front gates, the home slowly reveals an inspired design, starting with the tropical-style gardens and Bali-esque porch.

The theme is carried through to the interiors across the versatile living areas, which feature high ceilings and stunning flooring.

The huge master bedroom, positioned at the front, is the first of four bedrooms and comes with a large ensuite and a walk-in robe.

Further inside, there is a second bedroom with built-in robes, the main bathroom and a two-way toilet.

The airconditioned main family space at the rear takes advantage of the northern aspect and is drenched in natural light pouring in from all angles.

The kitchen, with granite benchtops and stainless steel appliances, has the best views across the dining and lounge room and all the way out to the alfresco and pool area.

Out here, the alfresco entertaining space carries on the tropical theme with lush gardens, pebble borders and an inviting solar-heated saltwater pool facing the decked barbecue area.

“We just love the pool and the indoor/outdoor living downstairs,” Christine said.

“We designed it so you can watch over the kids as you cook or go in to get a drink.”

On the first floor, there is a second sitting room with lofty ceilings and a gas pot belly stove that is centred on two more minor bedrooms, a third bathroom and a kitchenette.

This means this entire floor can work beautifully as a self-contained retreat, which is a real bonus for families with teenage children in particular.

“The house works well if you want separate areas – the parents can have the front, the kids can have the upstairs and then you can all come together in the living area and around the pool,” Christine said.
