Art to be sold back to artist

Southern Gazette (South Perth) - - NEWS -

THE Town of Victoria Park will sell public artwork Kata Djinanginy, also known as Hillview Looking, back to its artist Lance Chadd.

The work on the corner of Berwick Street and Hillview Terrace consists of two pole structures depicting Nyungar imagery and names of native flora and fauna originally found in the surrounding bushland.

It was installed in 2011, but the Town said it had come to the end of its material life.

After an independent art curator performed an analysis, a decision was made in consultation with Chadd to decommission the artwork and to follow best practice by offering to sell the artwork back to the artist, which he has agreed to.

“The artwork has become a familiar part of the Hillview Community Bushland and will be missed by the community,” Town chief executive Anthony Vuleta said.

“It has come to the end of its life.”
